PER760 is the code Dell uses in its documentation for the PowerEdge R760 (its service manual is published as per760_ism_pub). The R760 is a 2U two-socket rack server for 4th or 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, with up to 56 cores per socket on 4th Gen, up to 64 on 5th Gen, and a maximum TDP of 350 W. It has 32 DDR5 ECC RDIMM slots, 16 per processor, running at up to 5600 MT/s with 5th Gen processors and 4800 MT/s with 4th Gen.

It replaces the DDR4-based R750, so memory, PERC controllers and boot modules do not carry over. Front storage comes as 8, 16 or 24 x 2.5-inch bays, 12 x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays, or up to 16 EDSFF E3.S Gen5 NVMe drives, and rear options add 2 or 4 x 2.5-inch or 4 x E3.S drives. Dell lists PERC 11 (H755, H755N, H355) and PERC 12 (H965i, H965e) controllers, HBA355i/e and HBA465i, S160 software RAID, and the BOSS-N1 M.2 boot module.

Expansion is up to eight PCIe Gen4 or up to four PCIe Gen5 slots, plus an optional OCP 3.0 slot that can be fitted alongside or instead of the LOM card. The chassis takes up to two double-width 350 W GPUs or six single-width 75 W cards. Power supplies run from 700 W to 3200 W Titanium and 800 W to 2400 W Platinum, with an 1100 W -48 VDC option.

When buying a used R760, confirm the processor generation (it sets the memory speed), the drive-bay layout and the PSU wattage against the GPUs and drives you plan to fit.
