This active optical cable links two 40GbE QSFP+ ports over 7 m (22.97 ft) of fibre, with an active QSFP+ transceiver permanently attached to each end. It reaches farther than the copper cables in the BladeSystem c-Class 40G range, which stop at 5 m.
A complete cable weighs 0.33 lb (0.15 kg), and each transceiver end draws up to 1.5 W. The cable is 3 mm in diameter and bends to a minimum radius of 25 mm, so it is much thinner than a copper cable of the same length.
Signal figures are 26 dB maximum crosstalk between pairs, 1.57 nsec per foot of delay and a 10-15 bit error rate ceiling; the construction is non-conductive.
Operating temperature is 0 to 70 C at 0% to 85% non-condensing humidity. Storage is rated from -40 to 85 C at the same humidity range, and altitude up to 10,000 ft (3 km). HPE's spare number for this cable is 746966-001. Further cables are available from HPE Misc.
