A903-FAN is the modular fan tray that cools the Cisco ASR 903 router. It supports online insertion and removal, so the router stays powered while it is swapped.
To fit the A903-FAN, orient the tray with the captive screws on the left of the front panel, slide it in until it is fully seated and tighten the captive screws to no more than 5.5 in-lb (0.62 N-m). To remove it, loosen the captive screw, pull the tray back no more than 1 inch to release it from the midplane power receptacle, wait at least 5 seconds for the fans to stop, then pull it out by its handle.
Work quickly: if the tray is not replaced in time the system powers itself off. At 25 C ambient the limit is 2 minutes 15 seconds with an RSP3-200, 1 minute with an RSP3-400 and 5 minutes with an RSP2. With an RSP2, allow at least 2 minutes for reinitialization after the tray is removed or replaced. After an overheating shutdown, reinsert the fan tray before powering the system on and clear the alarms in the management system.
The dust filter applies to the A903-FAN and A903-FAN-H but not to the A903-FAN-E, and the filter itself is ordered as A903-FAN-F=. A route switch processor for the same chassis is the A903-RSP1A-55 route switch processor, and more parts are in the Cisco modules category.
