Cisco ASR 903 Route Switch Processor 1, Base Scale (RSP1A)

A903-RSP1A-55 is the Cisco ASR 903 Route Switch Processor 1 at base scale, also called the RSP1A. Cisco lists a maximum interface throughput of 55 Gbps, with no support for oversubscription, and forwarding of 65 Mpps for both IPv4 and IPv6. It carries 2 GB of DRAM and 2 GB of flash, and the MTU is configurable up to 9216 bytes.

Cisco gives these scale figures for the part: 16,000 MAC addresses, 4,000 bridge domains, 3,998 Ethernet flow points, 256 L3 interfaces, 20,000 IPv4 routes, 6,000 IPv6 routes, 1,000 multicast routes, 128 MPLS VPNs, 15,994 MPLS labels, 2,000 EoMPLS tunnels, 2,000 VPLS instances and 1,500 IPv4 ACL entries. It supports 511 BFD sessions and 256 CFM sessions at 3.3 ms.

Supported interface modules are A900-IMA1X, A900-IMA8S and A900-IMA8T for Ethernet, and A900-IMA16D, A900-IMA4OS and A900-IMASER14A/S for TDM and ATM. Support depends on software version, RSP version, chassis and slot. Software support for the ASR 903 chassis starts at IOS XE 3.5.0S and for the ASR 902 at 3.12.0S.

Two RSPs in an ASR 903 or ASR 907 run as one active and one hot standby, and the RSP supports online insertion and removal. Cisco gives 195 W for a chassis with two power supplies, one fan tray and one RSP, and an MTBF of 300,000 hours at 40 C.

Cisco announced end-of-sale on October 17, 2016; the end-of-sale date is October 17, 2017 and the last date of support is October 31, 2022. The notice lists the A900-RSP2A-128, A900-RSP2A-64, A900-RSP3C-200-S and A900-RSP3C-400-S as replacements.

Its large-scale sibling is the A903-RSP1B-55, which has 4 GB of DRAM, 256,000 MAC addresses and 80,000 IPv4 routes. Other ASR parts are in Cisco modules and Cisco routers.
