Cisco ASA 5506W-X Firewall with FirePOWER Services and WiFi

ASA5506W-A-K9 is the wireless version of the ASA 5506-X. Cisco describes it as "ASA 5506-X with FirePOWER services, WiFi, 8GE, AC, 3DES/AES". Cisco also sold the ASA5506W-B-K9, -E-K9, -Q-K9 and -Z-K9 as further WiFi models, and separate -FTD-K9 versions that ship with Firepower Threat Defense software.

The wireless side has two simultaneous dual-band radios, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11n MIMO, at 2 TX x 2 RX with two spatial streams and a 300 Mbps PHY rate. Four internal inverted-F antennas, two per band, sit inside the top of the chassis. Cisco lists controller-based and autonomous modes, and DFS support for UNII-2 and UNII-2 Extended channels.

Wired connections are eight 10/100/1000 ports plus a dedicated Gigabit management port, RJ-45 and Mini USB console ports (one active at a time), and a USB Type A port. Power is a 12 V, 60 W external brick. The unit measures 7.87 x 9.23 x 1.94 inches including feet, weighs 4 lb, and can sit on a desk, mount on a wall with the ASA5506-WALL-MNT= kit, or slide into a rack shelf; Cisco says not to stack chassis.

Lifecycle: end of life was announced on August 31, 2018, end of sale was September 30, 2018, and the last ship date was December 31, 2018. The last date of support is September 30, 2023.
