The Dell EMC PowerEdge R450 is a 1U two-socket rack server for 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, with up to 24 cores per processor, three UPI links per socket and 64 integrated PCIe 4.0 lanes at 16 GT/s. Supported processors run from the 8-core Xeon 4309Y and 5315Y to the 24-core 5318Y. Target workloads are light-duty virtualization, small IT infrastructure and small-business applications, and the R450 has no internal GPU support.
The R450 takes up to 16 registered DDR4 DIMMs at 1.2 V, 8 per processor, in 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB capacities. Unbuffered DIMMs are not supported. Front bays are four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives or eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, and the supported drive set includes 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, SAS SSDs up to 7.68 TB, 10K and 15K SAS hard drives, 3.5-inch 7.2K SATA and SAS drives from 2 TB to 16 TB and M.2 SATA SSDs of 240 GB and 480 GB.
Storage controllers are PERC H355, H345, H745 and H755, HBA355i and S150 software RAID, and boot options are the BOSS-S1 module with two M.2 SSDs or the internal dual SD module. Embedded networking is a Flex I/O LOM with two 1 Gb ports on a BCM5720 controller, and an OCP 3.0 card slot on x16 lanes supports 1, 10 and 25 GbE cards. Two PCIe Gen4 low-profile half-length x16 slots come from the R1 and R2c risers. Front ports are iDRAC Direct (micro-AB USB), USB 2.0 and VGA, and rear ports are USB 2.0, USB 3.0, VGA, two Ethernet and a dedicated iDRAC network port.
Power supplies are 600 W Platinum, 700 W Titanium, 800 W Platinum, 1100 W Titanium and 1100 W DC (-48 to -60 V), with hot-plug redundancy and N+1 fan redundancy. The chassis is 42.8 mm high and 434 mm wide (482 mm across the ears), and maximum weight is 18.62 kg for the 4 x 3.5-inch build and 16.58 kg for the 8 x 2.5-inch build. Management is iDRAC9, and the R450 supports Ubuntu Server LTS, Citrix Hypervisor, Windows Server with Hyper-V, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and VMware ESXi.
