Dell PowerEdge XE8545 4U Two-Socket AMD EPYC Server with Four NVIDIA A100 GPUs (XE8545)

The XE8545 is the Dell PowerEdge XE8545, a two-socket 4U air-cooled server for machine learning, high-performance computing and accelerated virtualization. It carries two 3rd Generation AMD EPYC processors of 280 W with up to 64 cores each and four NVIDIA A100 GPUs linked by NVLink, in 40 GB (400 W) or 80 GB (500 W) versions. It is an NVIDIA-Certified System, and GPU sharing across tenants uses NVIDIA vGPU software or Multi-Instance GPU.

Memory is 32 DDR4 slots running at up to 3200 MT/s. Front storage is ten 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS/SATA bays or up to eight 2.5-inch NVMe drives, handled by a BOSS S1.5 card and an H745 controller. Rear I/O has one low-profile PCIe Gen4 x16 slot, one full-height Gen4 x16 slot and a third full-height slot that is either one Gen4 x16 or two Gen4 x8, with an OCP 3.0 x16 mezzanine for networking and two 1 GbE LOM ports on board.

Cooling uses twelve hot-plug front fans and six internal CPU fans. Air cooling holds up to 35 C with the 400 W GPUs and up to 25 C with the 500 W GPUs. Power is four hot-plug redundant 2400 W AC supplies or four 2800 W AC/DC supplies.

Management is iDRAC9 with iDRAC Direct and Quick Sync 2.0, together with OpenManage Enterprise support, iDRAC9 Enterprise, Power Manager, SupportAssist and Update Manager. Security covers cryptographically signed firmware, Secure Boot, Secure Erase, silicon root of trust, system lockdown, TPM 1.2/2.0 (TCM 2.0 optional) and AMD Secure Memory Encryption and Secure Encrypted Virtualization. Ports are one front USB 2.0 for iDRAC, plus one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 at the rear. The chassis is 810 mm deep and 447 mm wide, and Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server with Hyper-V and VMware ESXi are supported.
