The C4140 is the Dell PowerEdge C4140, a 1U two-socket server built around GPU acceleration. It takes four double-wide full-height PCIe GPUs of up to 300 W each in configurations B, C and G, or SXM2 GPUs with NVLink in configurations K and M. Supported accelerators include NVIDIA Tesla P40 and V100 16 GB and 32 GB in PCIe and NVLink forms.

Two 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 24 cores each (up to 150 W) sit alongside 24 DDR4 DIMM slots: RDIMMs of 8, 16 and 32 GB and 64 GB LRDIMMs at up to 2933 MT/s, for a maximum of 1.5 TB.

The boot device is an internal BOSS PCIe card with one or two matching M.2 drives of 120, 240 or 480 GB. An IDSDM or vFlash module is the alternative, and a bay can replace the second PSU with two 2.5-inch SATA SSDs in a non-RAID layout. Two NVMe/PCIe SSD add-in cards fit the rear low-profile Gen3 slots.

Four double-wide Gen3 x16 accelerator slots and two low-profile Gen3 x16 slots are available. Network daughter cards are an Intel X550 quad-port 10GBASE-T, the same card in a 2+2 layout, or an Intel X710 quad-port 10 Gb SFP+ (2+2). Rear low-profile adapters include the Intel I350 quad-port 1GbE, X550 dual-port 10GBASE-T, X710 dual-port 25GbE SFP28 and Intel Omni-Path 100 Gb. The rear has two USB 3.0 ports, video, serial and a dedicated iDRAC Ethernet port, and iDRAC9 with Lifecycle Controller manages the system.

Power is dual 2000 W or 2400 W hot-plug supplies, redundant or non-redundant, with a single-PSU option in certain configurations. The chassis is 4.28 cm high and 43.4 cm wide and weighs up to 24 kg.
