Dell PowerEdge R440 1U Two-Socket Rack Server (PER440)

The PER440 is the Dell PowerEdge R440, a two-socket 1U rack server built on Intel Xeon Scalable processors. It is aimed at high-performance computing, web serving, infrastructure scale-out, surveillance and site security, and at software-defined storage and other data-intensive applications.

Sixteen DDR4 slots take RDIMMs and LRDIMMs of 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB at up to 2666 MT/s. Single-rank and dual-rank DIMMs can be installed two per channel, and quad-rank DIMMs one or two per channel.

Front bays come in three layouts: ten 2.5-inch bays for SAS, SATA or NVMe drives, eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA bays, or four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA bays. The S140 software RAID covers SATA drives, while hardware controllers run from H330 and H730P to H740P, H350 and H750, with HBA350i, HBA330, HBA355e, H840 and a 12 Gb/s external SAS HBA also available. A BOSS card carries up to two 6 Gbps M.2 SATA drives for the operating system, and an IDSDM/vFlash module takes microSD cards of 16, 32 or 64 GB (16 GB for vFlash).

Two PCIe Gen3 slots (x16 and x16) sit beside a dedicated PERC slot and a LOM slot. Two 1 GbE LOM ports are built in, and an optional riser adds two 1 GbE, two 10 GbE or two 10 GbE SFP+ ports. Power is a pair of hot-plug 550 W Platinum supplies or a single 450 W Bronze cabled supply. Management is iDRAC9 with Lifecycle Controller and the Quick Sync 2 BLE/Wi-Fi module.

The chassis is 42.8 mm high and 482.0 mm wide. Fully loaded weight is up to 17.64 kg with four 3.5-inch bays, 16.04 kg with eight 2.5-inch bays and 16.81 kg with ten 2.5-inch bays.
