869081-B21 is the HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller. HPE states that the kit contains the P408i-a LH controller, with a low-profile heatsink (LH) that is required in certain servers.
HPE PartSurfer lists the spare as 871040-001: an AROC (Adaptive RAID on chip) controller for 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA, with 8 SAS lanes across two x4 internal Mini-SAS ports and a 2 GB flash-backed write cache. RAID levels are 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60, 1 ADM and 10 ADM.
The P408i-a QuickSpecs list the LH controller for the ProLiant DL360 Gen10 and DL560 Gen10. HPE notes that when GPUs are used in the DL360 Gen10, this LH controller should be used in place of the standard P408i-a, 804331-B21.
HPE requires a Smart Storage energy pack with Performance RAID controllers; the 96W Smart Storage Battery with 145mm cable, P01366-B21, is sold separately.
Fit check: confirm the server has a Smart Storage Battery fitted or order one with the controller.
With GPUs in a DL360 Gen10, HPE says to use this LH controller instead of the standard 804331-B21; 804394-B21 is an E208i-p in HPE Network Modules, Transceivers and Controllers.
