C8500-12X is the Cisco Catalyst 8500 edge platform with 12 x 1/10GE ports, all SFP+, in a 1RU chassis. Forwarding is handled by the third-generation Quantum Flow Processor (QFP) ASIC.
Cisco's throughput figures for the C8500-12X are: SD-WAN IPsec up to 51 Gbps with 1400 byte clear text and up to 22.6 Gbps with IMIX; in autonomous mode, IPv4 forwarding up to 118 Gbps and IPsec up to 84 Gbps at 1400 bytes. It supports 8,000 SD-WAN overlay tunnels. The minimum software is Cisco IOS XE 17.3.2.
Memory is 16 GB of DRAM by default, upgradable to 32 GB (MEM-C8500-32GB) or 64 GB (MEM-C8500-64GB). The chassis ships with two high-efficiency power supplies: the PWR-CH1-750WACR (750 W AC, 85 to 264 VAC, 80 Plus Platinum) or the PWR-CH1-950WDCR (950 W DC, -40 to -72 V with -48 V nominal).
The chassis measures 1.73 x 17.50 x 18.46 in (H x W x D) and weighs 20.25 lb with two AC power supplies and the fan tray.
Smaller edge platforms are in Cisco routers, such as the Catalyst 8500L-8S4X and the Catalyst 8300 with 2 x 10GE.
