UCS-M2-HWRAID is Cisco's hardware RAID controller for M.2 drives. It lets the operating system use the drives for storage or as bootable disks. The carrier holds two M.2 drives, one on each side. It looks like the UCS-MSTOR-M2 carrier, but hardware RAID needs the UCS-M2-HWRAID controller.
Two M.2 drives are required, and they must be the same model and capacity. RAID1 (mirroring) is the safest option for the pair. Setup needs UCS Manager 3.2.2b or higher, with the operating system running in UEFI mode. Supported minimums are CentOS 7.6, ESXi 6.5U2, RHEL 7.6, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019.
In UCS Manager the drives appear at slots 253 and 254 on M5 servers and slots 245 and 246 on M6. The array is built from a policy, a storage profile with a local LUN and a service profile. The LUN can take about a minute to come online and must be set online, and a host reboot may be needed before it is marked bootable. Deleting an orphaned LUN erases all data on the array.
More Cisco server parts are in the Cisco modules range.
