UCSC-RAID-M5 is the Cisco 12G modular RAID controller with 2 GB of cache for UCS C220 M5 rack servers. It drives up to 10 front-loading SAS or SATA drives.
Cisco supports it only in the small-form-factor 10-drive version of the C220 M5, the C220M5SX. The large-form-factor 4-drive server uses a different controller, UCSC-MRAID1G-KIT, and the non-RAID option for the 10-drive server is the UCSC-SAS-M5 host bus adapter.
The UCSC-RAID-M5 supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus JBOD mode. A supercap is optional and gives roughly three years of protection for the write-back cache by copying the cache DRAM to NAND flash after a power loss; the supercap sits on a bracket in line with the fan modules.
Connect the controller to the drive backplane with the SAS/SATA cable that ships with the chassis. Before putting a UCSC-RAID-M5 into service, check the controller firmware against the Cisco IMC and BIOS versions on the server and update with the Host Upgrade Utility if they differ. The embedded SATA RAID of the server cannot run at the same time as a hardware RAID card.
More server options are in the Cisco modules category.
