The Dell EMC PowerEdge R650xs is a two-socket rack server built on 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, with up to 32 cores per processor, three UPI links per socket at 10.4 or 11.2 GT/s and 64 integrated PCIe 4.0 lanes at 16 GT/s. Supported processors run from the 8-core Xeon 4309Y to the 32-core 6338. Target workloads are virtualization, public and private cloud, scale-out database and high-performance computing.
Memory is DDR4 ECC RDIMM at 3200 MT/s and 1.2 V, with 8 DIMM slots per processor and 16 in total, using 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB modules. Front bays are four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, eight 2.5-inch drives, ten 2.5-inch drives (SAS, SATA or NVMe) or no drive bays, with up to two 2.5-inch rear bays. Drive support spans 2.5-inch SATA and SAS SSDs, 10K and 15K SAS hard drives, NVMe Gen4 U.2 SSDs from 960 GB to 7.68 TB, 3.5-inch 7.2K SATA and SAS drives from 2 TB to 16 TB and M.2 SATA SSDs of 240 GB and 480 GB.
Internal storage controllers are PERC H345, H355, H745, H755 and H755N, HBA355i and S150 software RAID. External controllers are HBA355e and PERC H840, and boot options are the BOSS S1 module with two M.2 SSDs or the internal dual SD module. A Flex I/O LOM adds two 1 GbE ports on a BCM5720 controller, an OCP 3.0 slot on x16 lanes takes 1, 10 and 25 GbE cards, and up to three low-profile half-length PCIe Gen4 slots come from R1, R2a, R2b and R2c risers.
Up to two hot-plug power supplies run in 1+1 redundancy, in 600 W Platinum, 700 W Titanium, 800 W Platinum, 1100 W Titanium, 1400 W Platinum and 1100 W DC (-48 to -60 V) ratings. The chassis is 42.8 mm high and 434 mm wide (482 mm across the rack ears), with maximum weights from 14.84 kg with no drive bays to 18.62 kg with four 3.5-inch drives.
Management is iDRAC9 with iDRAC Direct, the iDRAC Service Module and Quick Sync 2 wireless. Supported operating systems are Canonical Ubuntu Server LTS, Citrix Hypervisor, Microsoft Windows Server with Hyper-V, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and VMware ESXi.
