IBM feature #EM4D is a 64GB (2x32GB) memory feature of two 32 GB DIMMs, 1066 MHz, 4Gb DDR3 DRAM, for the POWER7+ Power 720 (machine type 8202), Power 740 (8205), Power 710 and Power 730 (8231). The two DIMMs are installed together in DIMM slots on a memory riser card. Each riser card in the Power 710 and Power 730 provides four DDR3 DIMM slots and each riser card in the Power 720 and Power 740 provides eight, and the base system includes one riser card.
On the Power 710 the maximum memory is 256 GB, with four 32 GB DIMMs on each of two memory cards, and on the Power 730 it is 512 GB. A Power 720 with a 6-core or 8-core processor module holds 256 GB on one riser card and 512 GB on two. The Power 740 holds 256 GB or 512 GB on one or two riser cards and up to 1024 GB with four riser cards on two processor modules. A Power 720 with the 4-core processor module (#EPCK) cannot use #EM4D.
On the Power 710 and Power 730 a system can be ordered with a single memory feature, the second feature on the same riser card does not have to match the first, and every riser card must hold at least one memory feature. On the Power 720 and Power 740, features #EM08, #EM4B, #EM4C and #EM4D can be mixed on the same riser card when only one type of DIMM is used in a DIMM quad. PowerLinux systems use feature #EL2U for the same 64 GB memory.
