IBM feature #EM53 is the 128 GB DDR3 memory feature for the IBM Power System S822LC, machine type 8335, models 8335-GCA and 8335-GTA. It is the largest of the four memory sizes for this server. One #EM53 is a memory riser card with four 32 GB DRAMs running at 1333 MHz, and the memory buffer on the card is an L4 cache built on eDRAM with 16 MB per riser. A fully populated Power S822LC with two processors and eight riser cards has 128 MB of L4 cache in total.
The quantity for #EM53 is eight, which fills every memory riser position and totals 1024 GB, the maximum system memory of the server. Eight 128 GB riser cards place 32 DDR3 RDIMMs in the system. On the 8335-GCA model, memory features cannot be mixed, valid quantities are two, four and eight, and the base memory is 32 GB from two 16 GB #EM50 riser cards.
On the 8335-GTA model all the memory modules are populated and the base memory is 128 GB from eight 16 GB #EM50 riser cards, with memory upgrades not supported. The riser cards fill in identical pairs, the first pair in the slots marked 1, the second pair in the slots marked 2 and the remaining pairs in the slots marked 3. The Power S822LC is a 2U server with two POWER8 processor modules in 16-core or 20-core configurations.
