ICX7400-1X40GQ is the Ruckus ICX 7450 one-port 40 GbE QSFP+ module for stacking or uplink. It adds 40 GbE to a switch that otherwise starts with 1 GbE or 10 GbE ports, and Ruckus describes it as the on-demand upgrade path to 40 GbE uplinks.
There is a slot rule to know before ordering. The module cannot be installed in the front-facing slot of the 48-port models, the ICX 7450-48, 7450-48P and 7450-48F. That caps a 48-port switch at two 40 GbE QSFP+ ports (the two rear slots), while the 24-port models can carry three.
Two of these modules in the rear slots form the stacking links for the ICX 7450. Up to 12 switches can be stacked using two full-duplex 40 Gbps QSFP+ ports per switch, giving a fully redundant backplane with 960 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. Distances between stacked switches reach 10 km with standard optics or cables.
The ICX 7450 chassis is 1U, 440 mm wide and 393.7 mm deep, and the modules slot into the front and rear of that chassis. Ruckus also pitches the 40 GbE uplinks for a top-of-rack role, where servers connect at 1 GbE and 10 GbE and uplinks run to the data center aggregation or core.
Companion modules for the same switches include the 4-port 1/10 GbE SFP/SFP+ ICX7400-4X10GF. The wider ICX range is with the Brocade and Ruckus ICX parts.
