WS-X6748-SFP is the Cisco Catalyst 6500 48-port high-performance mixed media Gigabit Ethernet module, CEF720, and it requires SFP optics. The 48 SFP ports take 1000BASE-SX, LX/LH, ZX, T and CWDM transceivers with LC connectors, and the maximum frame size is 9216 bytes.
The module connects to the switch fabric of Supervisor Engine 720 through a dual 20 Gbps channel, 40 Gbps in total, and Supervisor Engine 720 is the only supervisor it supports. Forwarding is centralized, 720 Gbps using CEF and up to 30 Mpps per system. The optional WS-F6700-DFC3 distributed forwarding card brings distributed forwarding, up to a sustained 48 Mpps per slot.
Each port has a 166 KB receive buffer and a 1.17 MB transmit buffer. Queue structure is 1p3q8T transmit and 1q8T receive (2q8T with distributed forwarding), with DWRR scheduling.
Port density reaches 240 ports in a 6513 and 384 ports in a 6509. The module is not supported in the 6503 chassis.
