NIM-ES2-8 is a Cisco Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet LAN switch network interface module for 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers. It has eight 10/100/1000 switched ports with line-rate Layer 2 forwarding and no PoE, so it suits wired desktops, printers and servers rather than powered devices.
The module supports up to 60 VLANs out of 4094 VLAN IDs, with one spanning-tree instance per VLAN up to the same limit of 60. Each port has four QoS queues, strict priority by default, with SDWRR available for configurable queue weights. Supported switching features include intrachassis cascading without an external link, protected ports, PortFast, BPDU guard, jumbo frames, IGMP snooping, 802.1X and auxiliary VLANs.
Dynamic secure port, port security filtering, per-port storm control, EtherChannel and SPAN across multiple NIMs are not supported.
Router capacity for the 8-port non-PoE module is 2 modules on the Cisco 4221, 4321 and 4331, and 3 modules on the Cisco 4351, 4431 and 4451, for up to 16 or 24 switched ports respectively on the larger chassis. NIM-ES2-8 is single-wide and measures 0.8 x 6.2 x 4.8 in (2.1 x 18.8 x 12.2 cm) and weighs 108 g (0.24 lb).
