PER650 is the code Dell uses in its documentation for the PowerEdge R650 (its service manual is published as per650_ism_pub). The R650 is a 1U, two-socket, 15th-generation successor to the R640. It runs 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and has 32 DDR4 DIMM slots at up to 3200 MT/s (RDIMM to 2 TB, LRDIMM to 8 TB), plus up to 16 Intel Persistent Memory 200 series slots. Front bays come as 4 x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA, 8 x 2.5-inch NVMe or 10 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe, with an optional 2 x 2.5-inch rear bay, and there are up to three PCIe Gen4 slots; Dell's R650 technical guide lists models such as the Xeon Gold 5317 (3.0 GHz, 12 cores, 150 W).

Storage control is where it differs most from the R640. Dell lists the HBA355i, H345, H355, H745, H755 and H755N for the R650, while the R640 used the HBA330, H330, H730P, H740P and H840, so controllers and their cables do not carry over between the two. Networking moves to an OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot supported by x8 PCIe lanes; Dell's guide lists 17 OCP cards from Broadcom (Emulex), Intel, Mellanox, SolarFlare and Marvell, from the four-port 1 GbE G9XC9 up to dual- and quad-port 25 GbE SFP28 cards.

Power options include an 1100 W AC/HVDC Titanium supply (100-240 Vac, 4299 BTU/hr) and an 1100 W -48 VDC supply, and Dell's FR0KX 1100 W PSU firmware package names the R650 as a supported system. Dell also notes that PowerEdge servers flag PSUs with different input voltage ranges or input types as incorrectly configured, so both supplies should match.

Before buying, check the front drive-bay configuration, which PERC is fitted and whether the PSUs suit your power feed.
