NCS-55A1-36H-S is the Cisco Network Convergence System 5500 fixed chassis with 36 ports of 40GE/100GE, and up to 144 ports of 10GE/25GE using breakout with certain transceivers. Cisco gives up to 3.6 Tbps of system throughput in a 1RU chassis, and full line-rate MACsec encryption on all 36 x 100G ports.
It runs 64-bit IOS XR on an 8-core x86 CPU at 1.6 GHz, with 32 GB of system memory and a 128 GB SSD, and needs Cisco IOS XR 6.3.1 or later. It has TOD ports and a 10 MHz and 1PPS connector, and Cisco says the -S is timing-capable from hardware shipped after July 2019, with timing standards supported from IOS XR 7.0.1.
Two hot-swappable power supplies give 1+1 redundancy and three hot-swappable fan trays cool the chassis. Typical power is 1100 W at 27 C and maximum is 1450 W at 55 C. The chassis is 17.3 in (43.94 cm) wide, 30.0 in (76.20 cm) deep and weighs 33 lb (14.97 kg).
The NCS-55A1-36H-SE-S has the same ports, throughput and memory but handles up to 4M FIB entries against 1M, with typical 1300 W and maximum 1700 W power. The NCS-55A1-24H has 24 ports of 40/100GE, up to 1.8 Tbps, a 21.7 in depth and a 24 lb weight.
