The J8770A is the HP Switch 4204vl chassis, a member of the modular 4200vl series. HP rates the series at up to 76.8 Gb/s crossbar switching fabric and up to 48 million packets per second, with hot-swappable modules and mini-GBICs. A redundant power supply is optional and hot-swappable when two are fitted; HP lists the J4839A as the redundant supply for gl/xl/vl switches. The series supports single-IP management of a virtual stack of up to 16 switches.
HP announced end of sale on January 31, 2015, with an end-of-sale date of July 31, 2015, and lists no direct replacement SKU. It recommends the HP 5400R zl2 for a chassis-based solution, or the HP 2920 or 3800 for a stacking-based solution.
The chassis takes vl modules such as the J8768A 24-port Gig-T, the J9033A 20-port Gig-T
4-port SFP, and the J8766A 1-port 10GbE X2. The larger sibling is the J8773A 4208vl chassis.
