The J9050A is the HP ProCurve Switch 2900-48G. It has 48 auto-sensing 10/100/1000Base-T ports, four dual-personality ports that take an RJ-45 or a mini-GBIC (J4858B Gigabit-SX, J4859B Gigabit-LX or J4860B Gigabit-LH), and four 10-GbE ports on the rear: two fixed CX4 ports and two X2 transceiver bays. The supported X2 transceivers are the J8436A (SR), J8437A (LR), J8438A (ER), J8439A (CX4 media converter) and J8440A (X2 CX4); transceivers hot swap, but the 10-GbE port module itself needs the switch powered off.
Power is an internal supply on 100-127 or 200-240 V; an RPS input accepts the ProCurve 620 RPS/EPS. Up to 16 switches can form a virtual stack under one Commander.
HP announced end of sale on May 11, 2009, with final order September 15, 2009, end of sale October 1, 2009 and end of service life September 30, 2014. The notice names the J9147A HP ProCurve 2910al-48G as the replacement, which takes optional 10GbE modules (J9149A 2-port CX4 or J9008A 2-port SFP+). The 24-port sibling is the J9049A 2900-24G.
