NIM-VAB-A is the Cisco 1-port VDSL2/ADSL2+ NIM over POTS with Annex A, a single-port multimode VDSL2 and ADSL2/2+ WAN module. It has one RJ-11 VDSL2 interface, and Cisco lists the optional CAB-ADSL-RJ11X= cable for use with external splitters.
It is supported only in the onboard NIM slots of the Cisco 4321, 4331, 4351, 4431 and 4451 ISRs, with up to 2 NIMs on the 4321 and 4331 and up to 3 on the 4351, 4431 and 4451. It needs Cisco IOS XE Release 3.14 or later and the IP Base technology package.
For VDSL2, Cisco lists downstream speeds up to 100 Mbps and upstream up to 50 Mbps using Ethernet PTM with IEEE 802.3ah 64/65 octet encapsulation. Profiles are 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 12a, 12b and 17a with band plans 997 and 998. The two-pair bonded 17a and single-pair 30a profiles are supported on the NIM-VAB-A but not on the Annex B NIM-VA-B. ADSL over POTS uses ITU G.992.1, G.992.3 and G.992.5 using ATM only.
Other listed features include IEEE 802.1q VLAN tagging, dying gasp, DELT diagnostics, impulse noise protection and downstream power backoff.
