NIM-4T is a Cisco 4-port serial WAN interface card in the single-wide network interface module format for 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers. Its four ports are synchronous serial ports, each running at up to 8 Mbps, and they use the Cisco Smart Serial connector with the same connectors and cabling as the HWIC-4A/S and HWIC-2A/S cards on ISRG2 routers.
The serial protocols are EIA-232, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A, V.35 and X.21, together with the telecom approvals TBR1 and 2 and JATE digital. Bisynchronous and X.25 are not supported. The module carries point-to-point and point-to-multipoint WAN designs using HDLC, PPP and Frame Relay, and it needs Cisco IOS XE Release 3.12 or later with the IP Base feature set as a minimum.
Smart Serial cables for the module are 10 ft (3 m) assemblies: CAB-SS-V35MT and CAB-SS-V35FC for V.35, CAB-SS-232MT and CAB-SS-232FC for EIA/TIA-232, CAB-SS-449MT and CAB-SS-449FC for EIA/TIA-449, CAB-SS-X21MT and CAB-SS-X21FC for X.21, plus CAB-SS-530MT and CAB-SS-530AMT for EIA/TIA-530 and 530A. The Cisco 4451-X takes up to three NIM-4T modules. The module measures 1.25 x 3.50 x 7.24 in (3.18 x 8.89 x 18.39 cm) and operates at 32 to 104 F (0 to 40 C).
Other router modules are in Cisco interface cards and transceivers, such as the C-NIM-8T 8-port Gigabit Ethernet LAN/WAN module and the NIM-2GE-CU-SFP 2-port Gigabit Ethernet module.
